Illustration Book Rips off Artists and Interviews

Nearly an entire website of interviews, and dozens (hundreds?) of copyright protected art printed without permission, or even accreditation. I don’t understand how something like this just slips through the publication system. Maybe if they’d used a POD company, but this sounds like it’s too widely distributed for something like that. I feel bad for Darren and all the artists involved. I can only hope they’re able to combine their resources and fight back somehow.

Help them out by spreading the word!

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School

This sounds like an amazingly fun way to kick start the ol’ muse for an evening. Depending on how often they reposition, it could be a great opportunity to break out my charcoals and pastels again and do some big messy sketches.

It’s the third Monday of every month. Unfortunately, I’ll be having my permanent crown installed on the day of this month’s session (the 21st), and will likely not be up for much other than laying around and drooling on myself. But if any of you artsy Atlanta locals would be interested in going in the future, just say the word! Yay for booze and art (and gorgeous models)! XD

My interest was piqued by Ysabet’s mention of a ‘colors-of-love code’ on this entry in her Livejournal. When I went a-googling, I was thinking of something a little different than the resulting find (which I’ve read about before, and can’t remember the terminology I found it under), but this was one entry I found on Wikipedia that was apparently related to “colors of love.” It’s intereting to me in the same way the Kinsey Scale is.

Dear Coworker,

I know you don’t have a car. I understand transportation can be an issue sometimes. But I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to work until 5 o’clock, and not until “your ride” gets here at four. It must be nice to just be able to leave whenever you want (funny how it always seems to be after our supervisor leaves…), but how ’bout not leaving me to man this place alone for an extra hour on a fairly regular basis? Yeah. That’d be nice. Thanks.

Tabard’s in! Redesign, take two

Working on a(nother) redesign for Tabard’s in!, inspired by aspects of The Morning After (the theme I was using before) and the need for something more small-screen-friendly. I’ve been actively working on it for about a week, and it’s slow going since I don’t know PHP very well. But the OJT is proving to be an awesome challenge, and I’m having fun picking through code and figuring out how things work. So far, I’m really proud of the product in progress. It’s the first time I’ve really tried building a WP theme [mostly] from the ground up. It looks great on my EeePC, and just as good on a standard computer screen. I haven’t tested out different browsers yet. That’ll likely end up being a small nightmare, but I’ll deal with that once I get the base for everything down.

I’ve also upgraded to the brand-spankin’-new Wordpress 2.5, and I’ve gotta say, I’m lovin’ it! I haven’t hit any bugs yet, and the new admin interface is pretty and very easy to navigate. I’m especially excited about the prospect of messing around with the new Media Library, especially after spending a few minutes looking through Wordpress developer Matt Mullenweg’s use of the feature (take a look — holy cow!). It would certainly be good incentive to post more photos & art if I have access to an easy gallery engine. There’s already an idea or two brewing, and I can’t wait to start messing with it, but, once again, it’ll have to wait til I at least finish the bones of the site first.

I’ve got a test-install of WP 2.5 where I’m trying things out initially, but I’m slowly migrating pieces over to the main site. If anyone pops by and things are a little crazy or not working like they’re supposed to, that would be why :)

…er…or is that the other way around?

So over the weekend, we had some purple-dreaded-halfling-ninja fun, along with kinda miserable loneliness, with a face-rending toothache chaser.

And by “face-rending,” I mean I had a root canal yesterday. My dental insurance only covered about 1/6 the cost, and it was not cheap. I wasn’t sure what I thought would give me more nightmares last night, the sound and sensation of having my face drilled at for five hours, or the bills that are going to be following me for the next twelve months.

But seriously, being near 28 years old, and fillings the most complicated dental work I’ve ever had done before…I was a little terrified. I still kinda am. I have a fucking fake tooth in my head for cryin’ out loud! I’ve gotta go back in three weeks to have the permanent crown put on. Hopefully it’s more comfortable than the temp, and seated a little differently. I’m not sure how anyone manages to have a normal bite again after something like this, when you can’t feel your face when they ask you if it feels right. Probably the scariest part is feeling like I’m going to have this pain for the rest of my life. I know it’s probably just the root and gums and all that healing, but it’s kinda hard to really grok that when it takes half an hour to eat one (normal, made-at-home) sammich.

Oh yeah, and did I mention I may have to have another root canal in the future? Yeah, good times. *sighs* That’s all I guess. Imma go try and be useful at work. Ha! Tylenol + codeine, I love you! ;p
