Attack of the Bills

Well there goes my financial cushion. To groceries and insanely high gas and cell bills.

And I was doing so well over the last two or three months.

Poo.

I’d love to know when I’ll be getting paid for doing three people’s jobs — that being my own, plus my coworker’s who runs the printers with me, and that of our graphic designer, who, it’s apparently been decided, I get to stand in for whenever he’s out.

I can’t really gripe at our design guy being out since he’s down with a bad flu, but the other girl…it just seems like the moment anything starts “going around” she catches it and skips work. Generally speaking, she’s ok — she’s actually pretty cool to work with — but this is not the first time I’ve been left in this situation, and it probaly won’t be the last. She didn’t even bother calling this morning (and that’s not a first either). She was out yesterday too, so she must have just figured we’d assume she wasn’t coming in. It makes me want to call her and say, “So…you’re sick, huh?”

It’s good that I can help out with the design stuff when I *need* to, but the stuff that’s been coming in since our designer’s been out is way outside the realm of simple typesetting.

*sighs*

I know it’s not that they don’t appreciate the work I’m doing now, or the stuff I’ve done in the past. Hell, I got a $200 bonus check a few months back when I stood in for the designer during a week-long cruise with his family. I think it’s just the fact that it’s expected, and nobody bothered to ask what I thought about it. And it doesn’t help that I want to take a day off on Monday (for some Bacchanal festivities! :D) and my supervisor/Production Manager is hemming and hawing over it because “we’re so busy” — which isn’t exactly true, and is a direct result of the fact that I’VE BEEN DOING THREE PEOPLE’S JOBS FOR TWO DAYS.

DX *explodes*

Ok. That’s all. I’m done. I just needed to get it out of my system. It’s not gone, but I can move on to other things now ;p

Spitzer (Ms.)

Generally speaking, I consider myself apolitical. I’m just not interested. But they’ve had CNN on tv at work for the last couple weeks, and, among other things, I’m reminded why I’m so very dissillused with the US political system. I don’t know how anyone will be able to stand to hear about elections or anything else government-related by the time November rolls around.

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority when I say that I’m a little annoyed at the commentary directed at Eliot Spitzer’s wife since this whole prostitution ring scandal came out. Sure, he got caught doing something stupid and hypocritical (to say the least). Has Silda Wall Spitzer made any speeches of her own concerning her feelings over the situation? Does anyone know exactly what has transpired between Spitzer and his wife since all this dirty laundry was aired?

I didn’t think so.

Stop calling her weak, or asking how she can “put herself through all this,” and especially that you can’t believe she’s being forced to stand up there with him. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be there if she didn’t have a damned good reason. No one but they knows exactly what’s going on behind the scenes between the two of them. I’m sure she’s probably not thrilled with the situation, but she’s still there, so give her at least a little credit for the strength she’s displaying.

Interesting article about the woman herself

Not quite Italian enough

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that Atlanta is sorely lacking geek-friendly (in this case, read “wifi enabled”) Italian restaurants. Or if they do, in fact, exist, they must be well-guarded secrets of the geek underground.

2+ hours of searching online found me the Cafe Intermezzo, which, while fantastic otherwise, only makes it’s wifi access available from 10am to 7pm(?!), and a little place called Artuzzi’s that’s either smack dab in the middle of the city or 20 miles outside the perimeter (or maybe both? the maps were a little indecisive). On top of this, my favorite Italian place (Brickhouse Pizza) has relocated, and won’t be open again until sometime later this month.

Granted, I also found a bunch of other restaurants to try out while I was looking around, but you know how the appetite is when you’re really craving something. A lonely plate of baked ziti was (is!) calling my name from somewhere in the distance. So instead my trusty Geek’s Guide sidekick (wave hi to Eddy everyone!) and I have ended up at a local Mellow Mushroom where there’s wifi a-plenty, but the closest you’ll get to Italian is a build-your-own calzone or some pizza. Any other time, I’d be content, but I’m pretty pizza’d out recently, and a soggy hoagie and funny-tasting honey mustard (a crime, says I!) just aren’t doin’ it for me.

Man, what I wouldn’t give for a pasta-and-hotspot combo right now; it’s apparently going to take more than a just couple hours of scouting around online to find. I know it’s out there somewhere. The world just wouldn’t be right if it wasn’t.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day outside — warm sunshine, cool breeze…

And all I want to do is go home and go back to bed e_e

Daylight Savings Time, I am not a fan.
